It is a new status of residence which was newly implemented in April 2019 in Japan.
Foreigners can work in the following 14 specified industry fields and are hired at a salary level equal to or higher than Japanese people.

※ Following skills proficiency tests are currently carried out in Nepal:
Nursing care,　Agriculture,　Food service industry

In order to work under a Specified Skilled Worker (i) status of residence, you need to pass a Japanese language test and a skills proficiency test. 

Test to measure Japanese language proficiency

In order to obtain a "Specified Skilled Worker" status of residence, it is necessary to pass the "Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic)" or acquire the N4 certificate for the "Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)". Both JFT-Basic and JLPT are conducted within and outside Japan.

About the Exam

In order to work in Japan as SSW, you can either work directly at a company certified by a Registered Support Organization, or you can have a company that acts as a Registered Support Organization introduce you to a place of employment.

Specified Skilled Worker (i)
　Eligible for support by Accepting Organizations or Registered Support Organizations

Period of stay	Renewed every 1 year, 6 months or 4 months, up to 5 years in total
Skill Standards	Confirmed by exams, etc. (those who have completed Technical Intern Training (ii) are exempted from exams, etc.)
Japanese Language Level	Proficiency in Japanese language required in daily life and at the workplace needs to be confirmed by exams, etc.
Accompanied by family members	basically not permitted

• The Registered Support Organization do not charge any fees from you. There is no high cost for coming to Japan.
• When entering Japan with SSW status from abroad, travel expenses will be borne by the Registration Support Organization.
• SSW's Registered Support Organization provides support from recruitment to employment, support for building a living infrastructure after work, and consultation. Available in Nepali, Burmese and English.
• With SSW status, you can obtain a status of residence of up to 5 years.
• It is possible to perform a wide range of labor.
  The range of work is wider than Technical Intern Training. The range of jobs that are the source of income is wider and liquid.
• If you have completed “Technical Intern Training (ii)”, you can change to “SSW (i)” in the same sector.
• Low cost, high profit
  “SSW” will enter Japan, already having Japanese language and skills in the specified field, so they are "immediately ready to work", and salary will be paid from the beginning.
• Transition from “Technical Intern Training (ii)”
  Those who have completed “Technical Intern Training (ii)” can make transition to a “SSW (i)” without any examination but with various conditions.

▶People living outside Japan

Pass a Japanese language test and a skills proficiency test.

Online SSW Seminar

JLECC (Japanese Language & Education Culture Centre)

Founded in June 2001, Japanese Language and Education Culture Center (JLECC) is an independent center located in Kumaripati, Lalitpur. One of the leading Japanese language centers in the country, it is also a member of Japanese Language Teachers Association of Nepal (JALTAN) and has also been participating actively in various cultural programs organized by JALTAN and the Japanese Embassy.
